The “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Song Writers Quest 2026-2027” is now open for song-writing workshop enrolment until July 22, with 30 vacancies, according to a press conference yesterday.
The press conference for the song creation competition was held yesterday at Macao New Chinese Youth Association.
The competition is organised by the Macau Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (MACA), and supported by the Music Copyright Society of China (MCSC), the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Limited (CASH), and the Cultural Development Fund.
According to the MACA statement, the competition consists of six parts: press conference, the song writing workshop recruitment phase, the song writing workshop training phase, call for entries for the Song Writers Quest, finals and performance, adding that the first stage, the song writing workshop, is now open for registration until July 22, and the lessons start on September 3 until December 31 (every Monday and Thursday) covering composition, lyrics, vocal techniques, music software application, recording technology, and music copyright.
The statement noted that the final slated for August, in which several awards, including Champion, First Runner-up, Second Runner-up, Best Composition, Best Lyrics, Best Performance, and My Favourite Song will be presented.
After the competition, the organiser will invite local singers or the original performers of the winning songs to campus for live performances, helping to promote Macau’s original music.
The call for entries will open early next year to the “9+2” GBA cities, and at least half of the members of each participating band must be residents of the Greater Bay Area, the statement said, adding that the competition will invite renowned composers and lyricists from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macau to form a professional judging panel, which will select eight entries to advance to the final.
The inaugural competition concluded successfully last year in Macau, receiving over 260 entries, effectively promoting music and cultural exchange within the Greater Bay Area, the statement added.
The Greater Bay Area comprises nine cities in Guangdong Province and the nation’s two special administrative regions (SARs) – Hong Kong and Macau.
