The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced in a statement yesterday the provisional schedule for the 44th Macao Young Musicians Competition, which will take place from July 25 through August 2 at multiple venues in Macau, with a “Special Prize Competition” set for August 6.

According to the statement, the competition covers both Chinese and Western instrument categories and has received close to 1,100 applications following the closure of submissions earlier this month.

This year’s competition will be held at the Macao University of Tourism’s (UTM) Mong-Ha campus and the Escola Oficial de Seac Pai Van (Seac Pai Van Official School/石排灣公立學校) in Coloane, the statement noted, adding that the Special Prize Competition is provisionally scheduled for August 6 at the Seac Pai Van school venue.

Participants are required to register in person at designated venues by presenting their Macau Resident Identity Card (BIR), the statement said. The bureau stressed that failure to complete in-person registration will result in disqualification, the statement noted, adding that competitors are also advised to check venue locations in advance to better plan travel arrangements.

In addition, participants and accompanists must use legally obtained music scores, the statement underlined. Where applicable, a “Music Score Copyright Declaration” must be submitted via the competition system by July 15, the statement said. Certain categories, including percussion and ensemble groups in both Chinese and Western instruments, are required to submit stage instrument placement plans by July 3, the statement noted.

The bureau reminded participants to refer closely to the official regulations covering instrument loans, rehearsal arrangements, competition rules, and check-in procedures, according to the statement.

The bureau encouraged all participants to carefully review competition requirements and schedules to ensure smooth participation in one of Macau’s key youth music education events, the statement said.
