In order to alleviate Macau’s demand for parking heavy and light vehicles used for transporting gaseous or liquid fuels, the Transport Bureau (DSAT) announced in a statement yesterday that the site of the former temporary fuel mid-way depot in the peninsula’s Ilha Verde district and its adjacent parking area are being redeveloped into a temporary outdoor public carpark.
The facility has been named the “Rua das Camélias Public Carpark” (山茶街公共停車場), the statement said, adding that it will be opened in phases to minimise the impact on industry operations and vehicle parking. The first 71 parking spaces for fuel transport vehicles will officially open on July 15. The existing parking area will then be closed from 9:00 a.m. on the same day to undergo renovations, which will provide 127 parking spaces for fuel transport vehicles and motorcycles/mopeds upon completion.
Situated at the junction of Estrada Nova da Ilha Verde (青洲新馬路), Rua da Camélia (山茶街), and Estrada Marginal da Ilha Verde (青洲河邊馬路), the carpark will provide a total of 198 parking spaces. According to the statement, this includes 115 spaces for heavy and light vehicles transporting gaseous or liquid fuels, and 83 spaces for public motorcycle parking.
The carpark will implement a “free for the first 15 minutes” policy, followed by half-hourly charging increments. The facility introduces a flexible fee structure and electronic payment options, covering automatic number-plate recognition (ANPR) payment, Macau Pass, MPay, and UnionPay QuickPass. Fuel transport lorries will benefit from a capped tariff, with a maximum parking fee of 60 patacas per continuous 24-hour period, the statement said, adding that the maximum allowable parking duration for all vehicles is eight consecutive days. Vehicles must exit the car park within 15 minutes after payment is settled.
Parking fees are split into day and night rates per 30 minutes. For heavy and light vehicles shorter than five metres, the fee ranges between 3 patacas during the day and 1.5 patacas at night; for vehicles exceeding five metres, it ranges between 5 patacas during the day and 2.5 patacas at night. For motorcycles and mopeds, the fee is one pataca during the day and 50 avos (0.5 pataca) at night.
