A 73-year-old male motorcyclist died in hospital on Saturday morning after crashing into the rear of a lorry in Taipa, the Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement.
According to the Public Security Police, they received a report at 10:29 a.m. on Saturday about the crash, which occurred on Avenida dos Jogos da Ásia Oriental (東亞運大馬路), near the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Ocean Station.
Upon arrival at the scene, paramedics found the rider unconscious and breathing weakly. He was rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for emergency treatment.
The PSP statement said that the rider, a local resident, was pronounced dead at 11:41 a.m. after life-saving efforts failed.
The lorry driver, a middle-aged local man, passed a breathalyser test.
The statement added that after gathering evidence and reviewing the citywide CCTV camera system, the police preliminarily concluded that the fatal accident was caused by “the motorcyclist’s failure to properly control his vehicle’s speed”.
The police are urging witnesses to the accident to contact their Traffic Department on 2837 4214.
