A local man in his fifties, who works as a civil servant, has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a female swimmer at a public swimming pool after “offering to teach her swimming techniques”, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Chi Weng said during a regular press conference on Friday.
The man, surnamed Chan, works for the Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT).
The incident occurred at the public Lin Fong Sports Centre in the northern district on the night of July 11. While the victim, also a local resident, was swimming, Chan approached her, struck up a conversation, and offered to coach her on her swimming techniques.
However, during the “lesson”, Chan allegedly groped the woman’s breasts, abdomen, and private parts multiple times. He also repeatedly pressured the victim to exchange contact information. Shaken and frightened, the victim gave him her phone number in order to escape the situation, and immediately left the venue.
Later that night, the woman decided to report the incident to the police after realising that she had been sexually harassed.
Chan was summoned to a police station for questioning last Monday, where he denied all allegations.
However, after assessing the findings of their investigation, the police decided to transfer Chan to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for further investigation, where he faces a sexual harassment charge.
Mainland woman falsely accuses man of rape after ‘condom slipped off’
Meanwhile, a 35-year-old woman from the Chinese mainland has been arrested for falsely accusing a man of rape after her attempt to blackmail him for 80,000 yuan failed when a condom slipped off during commercial sex, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Wai Lok said during Friday’s regular press conference.
The male victim, also a resident from the mainland, met the woman at a casino in Macau late last year, where they exchanged contact details. On Monday last week, the victim returned to Macau to gamble, and invited the woman, surnamed Wang, to his hotel room in Cotai. The pair engaged in consensual sex, after which the man paid Wang 5,800 yuan (6,913 patacas).
In the early hours of Wednesday last week, the man again invited Wang to his hotel room for sex, also for 5,800 yuan. However, after the encounter, Wang noticed that the condom had come off. She immediately demanded 80,000 yuan from the man as compensation. When the man refused to pay, Wang called the police to report that she had been raped.
The Public Security Police later transferred the case to the Judiciary Police for a follow-up investigation. Forensic medical examinations revealed no signs of injury on either individual. Following a thorough review of the evidence and timelines, PJ officers established that Wang had fabricated the rape allegation.
Wang has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office, facing charges of extortion and falsely reporting a crime.
