The 17th edition of AFA (Art for All) Autumn Salon will not only be held in Macau, but is also poised to make its debut in Shanghai.
The “17th AFA Autumn Salon 2026” takes on the theme “A Tale of Two Cities”, with the Macau edition of the event to be held from October through November in Casa Garden, the local headquarters of the Lisbon-based Orient Foundation (FO), while the Shanghai event will take place at the Shanghai Powerlong Museum in 2027, AFA and FO said in a joint statement earlier this week.
Calling for submissions, the Macau edition of the event, the statement said, will be held with an open theme, while the Shanghai edition will be themed “Navigation”, inspired by “Macau’s long-standing history as a crucial node on the “Maritime Silk Road” and a vital hub for cultural exchange between the East and the West”.
By taking the works of Macau artists to Shanghai, the organisers hope to present the “diverse landscape and immense potential of Macau’s art to both mainland and international audiences”.
The statement said that there will be no restrictions on the mediums while works must be made between 2024 and 2026. One can submit up to three works. Applications can be made until August 31.
Meanwhile, the organisers highlighted that the “Orient Foundation Art Award 2026” will also be accepting applications, with the prize of 50,000 patacas up for grabs, funding the winner for “a one-month artist residency in Portugal, engaging in creation, exchange, or training at a private or public art institution”. The winning and shortlisted works will also be showcased during the Autumn Salon.
The statement underlined that applications are open to Macau residents, students studying in Macau, or individuals working in Macau, being open to any nationality aged between 18 and 35.
One can find more details, along with the regulations and application forms, on the AFA Facebook page.
