The Macao International Children’s Arts Festival exhibition, “Echo the Wind Wanderer”, created by Australia-based artist Ekokaxi Wang, is being held until October 11 at both the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) and MGM COTAI, Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) Acting President Mok Chi Hang announced at yesterday’s opening ceremony.

The ceremony took place at MAM in Nape. According to an IC statement, the exhibition features multiple interactive sections, comprising “Echo’s Cabinet of Curiosities”, “Re-coding Macau”, “Aquarium Adventures”, and the outdoor installation “Mojo”, alongside “Wandering in a Parallel World” at MGM COTAI. The showcase aims to allow the public to trace the evolution of the artwork, experience the city after being “recoded”, and explore a parallel universe composed of “Echos”.

Serving as a guide, “Echo” is a character situated between the artist’s self-projection and a fairy-tale figure. “Echo” guides visitors to touch, learn through games, interpret the art freely, and engage their imagination to build a fantastical realm, the statement added.

In his speech, Mok noted that Wang specialises in creating immersive and interactive artistic experiences. By using everyday materials such as clay, paper, yarn, and sponge, she crafts a colourful, multi-layered, and poetic world that encourages visitors to reconnect with their inner innocence through her unique creative language, he said.

Aiming to enhance visitors’ experience, they can participate in a stamp-collection activity across both exhibition sites for a chance to win a “Wandering in a Parallel World” plush toy or a set of stickers.

The IC statement further noted that a range of outreach activities will run from next month through October. These include the “Summer Art for Families” activity series, “Music in the Macao Museum of Art”, and a new “Parent-Child Night Tour” designed to let families explore the museum after dark. Some activities require advance registration via the “Macao One Account” mobile app, while guided school tours can be arranged at MAM upon reservation.
