Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai yesterday met with Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology Xiong Jijun at Macao Government Headquarters. After their meeting, the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) signed a cooperation agreement, aiming to support Macau in developing new quality productive forces and advancing new-type industrialisation, according to a statement by the Macao Government Information Bureau (GCS) yesterday.
Witnessed by Sam and Lyu Yuyin, a deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the MSAR, the agreement was signed by Xiong and MSAR Secretary for Economy and Finance Dora Ng Wai Han at Government Headquarters.
During his meeting with Xiong, according to the statement, Sam noted that this year marks the beginning of the nation’s 15th Five-Year Plan and Macau’s 3rd Five-Year Plan. At this significant juncture, the signing of a cooperation agreement between the MSAR government and the MIIT represented an important and substantial step forward in Macau’s integration into the nation’s technological development framework.
Sam highlighted that the ongoing planning of the Macao Science and Technology Research and Development Industrial Park is a key initiative in advancing the city’s appropriate economic diversification. He said he expected the ministry to continue providing professional guidance to help Macau translate scientific research outcomes into practical applications.
During the meeting, Xiong expressed the ministry’s firm support for the decisions and deployments of the central authorities, as well as for Macau’s economic development and the improvement of residents’ well-being. He also expressed support for Macau better integrating into and serving the nation’s overall development.
Following the signing of the cooperation agreement, Xiong added that both sides will take the agreement as an opportunity to plan further, implement follow-up measures, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Macau in the fields of industry and information technology.
Xiong said that the two sides will also jointly contribute expertise and strength to developing new quality productive forces, advancing new-type industrialisation, and promoting the building of a strong nation through Chinese modernisation.
