Macau recorded 7.12 million hotel guests in the first half of the year, a year-on-year decline of 1.1 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced today.
Guests from the Chinese mainland (5.21 million) and Hong Kong (857,000) accounted for 73.1 percent and 12.0 percent of the total, respectively. Both visitor segments declined by 2.5 percent each.
Foreign nationals (662,000) made up 9.29 percent of all guests, an increase of 12.3 percent.
Guests from South Korea (191,000), Thailand (54,000), India (48,000), and the U.S. (34,000) increased by 13.0 percent, 43.5 percent, 16.1 percent, and 27.8 percent, respectively. Conversely, guests from Japan (45,000) and Malaysia (42,000) dipped by 5.6 percent and 6.0 percent, respectively.
In the first six months, the average hotel occupancy rate stood at 90.4 percent, a year-on-year increase of 1.3 percentage points.
June saw 1.09 million guests, an 8.6 percent decrease. However, the number of foreign guests (94,000) grew by 3.0 percent.
