Starting a four-day fact-finding visit to Fujian Province, Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai yesterday visited Wuyuan Bay in Xiamen to learn from its successful transformation – following ecological restoration and comprehensive development – into a cultural tourism district driving the city’s green growth, the Macao Government Information Bureau announced in a statement last night.
Sam and his entourage later travelled to Longyan to visit the site of the Gutian Conference, examining the development of local “red tourism” and patriotic education.
During his morning tour of Wuyuan Bay, Sam was briefed on the area’s unique ecological advantages and comprehensive environmental management, taking the initiative to enquire about the latest developments in ecological conservation and cultural tourism. He noted that Wuyuan Bay has expanded public coastal leisure spaces through diverse models, integrating ecological value to create a harmonious coastal environment. By leading restoration and development with forward-looking concepts, it has effectively boosted the cultural tourism industry and put President Xi Jinping’s ideology on ecological civilisation into practice – serving as a valuable model for the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) to emulate, according to the GCS statement.
Marking this year’s 105th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and the 99th anniversary of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Sam paid a dedicated visit in the afternoon to the Gutian Conference Site – a major historical and cultural site protected at the national level – and its memorial hall in Longyan. In 1929, the 9th Congress of the Fourth Army of the Red Army was held here, yielding the historic Gutian Conference Resolution. Gutian is the birthplace of the Party’s principles on building the Party ideologically and governing the military politically, as well as the foundation of the PLA’s political work, the statement underlined.
Sam remarked that revolutionary heritage sites carry deep cultural significance and educational value; preserving these historical buildings and opening them to the public not only enriches cultural tourism, but also serves as a vivid demonstration of patriotic education, the statement noted.
Sam to visit Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia
Meanwhile, after visiting Portugal, Spain Switzerland and Belgium in April, Sam will visit three Asian countries starting at the end of this month, public broadcaster TDM reported yesterday.
Between August 30 and September 5, Sam will travel to Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The news was revealed by GCS yesterday, according to TDM.
“Details of the trip are not yet known. There is still no agenda nor a list of the cities that the government delegation will visit. However, this is Sam’s second overseas trip, after visiting Europe in April,” TDM said.
