Nakamura Tokichi Honten, a family business that has been cultivating tea in Kyoto for 164 years, has recently opened a pop-up store at Galaxy Macau to introduce visitors from different parts of the world to the traditions of Japanese tea.

Nakamura Tokichi founded the company in 1854. When each generation takes over the business, the new leader of the company customarily changes his name, and currently Nakamura Tokichi VI (denoting the sixth generation), whose childhood name is Toji, oversees the business.

The brand had never been abroad until two years ago when it opened its first overseas tearoom in Hong Kong. Now with a pop-up store in Macau, the sixth generation is running the family business. Nakamura told the media last week that as people are becoming more health conscious and are drinking more tea, he wants to introduce them to the traditions of Japanese tea.
