Mainland tourist dies after being hit by taxi: Macau police

A female Chinese mainland tourist in her eighties was pronounced dead after being struck by a taxi near the Treasure Island Hotel near Praça de Ferreira do Amaral yesterday evening, according to a statement released by the Public Security Police Force (PSP) that evening.

The statement said that she suffered a fractured forearm and a laceration to the corner of her eye, adding that the accident occurred at around 5:36 p.m., when a taxi hit the tourist.

The police and the Fire Services Bureau (CB) dispatched personnel to the scene, the statement said. According to the statement, the woman was initially found without a pulse and was not breathing so she was rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for emergency treatment.

The bureau later said in a statement last night that the taxi driver involved in the accident is a local resident.

According to a statement by the police last night, the woman was pronounced dead at 5:52 p.m. after being rushed to the hospital.

Initial evidence collection and video surveillance retrieval have been conducted, and the cause of the accident remains under further investigation, the statement said. Members of the public who witnessed the incident or have any relevant information are urged to contact the Traffic Department at 2837 4214.
