The public University of Macau (UM) will host the World Universities Public Speaking Invitational Championship 2026 on August 28–29 as part of its 45th anniversary celebrations, bringing together students from 26 leading universities worldwide for an international English public speaking competition, according to a UM statement yesterday.
The statement said that the two-day championship will take place at the UM University Hall (N2), with the semi-finals scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on August 28 and the final contest and awards ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on August 29.
Participating universities include Peking University, Tsinghua University, Britain’s University of Oxford, and the US’s Stanford and Harvard Universities, the statement highlighted.
Through English public speaking, the event aims to promote intercultural exchange while showcasing students’ communication skills, critical thinking, and global perspectives, the statement noted, adding that the championship is open to the public.

UM will also host two public speaking workshops at the Student Activity Centre Theatre (E31-G001) on August 29, according to the statement.

Experienced trainers and professional speakers will share practical techniques covering speech delivery, persuasive communication, and competition preparation, with the workshops designed to help participants strengthen their public speaking and presentation skills, the statement noted.
The championship is one of the events marking UM’s 45th anniversary, the statement said, seeking to provide an international platform for exchange, encourage students to engage with global issues while developing their communication and leadership skills, and promote international cooperation and cultural exchange in higher education.
