The Sports Bureau (ID) held a press conference yesterday at its headquarters in Zape alongside the Macau Elderly Sports Association to announce that the Macau Senior Sports Games will be held next Sunday, September 13, at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion (塔石體育館).
According to ID Sports Development Department Chief Chao Kuok Wai, the event will feature a number of prize-winning recreational and physical activities designed to address the specific health needs of older people.
The aim is to guide seniors in using everyday household items to exercise through games, helping them develop an awareness of self-directed home workouts, Chao said. He added that the activities include exercises targeting upper and lower limb strength, cardiovascular fitness, mobility, and physical coordination.
Chao noted that the event will also feature a lucky draw alongside sport and health performances, offering participants several surprises. Through these interactive games, the initiative aims to raise seniors’ awareness of physical activity, enabling them to better understand their own physical condition and the importance of exercise for overall health.
This, in turn, will help them foster a positive attitude towards physical activity and adopt a healthy, lifelong sporting lifestyle, Chao noted.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the press conference, Chao said that this year’s event is being held for the first time in collaboration with multiple government entities, including the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS), and the Health Bureau (SSM).
In addition to sports activities, the event will offer new services such as Chinese and Western medical consultations, disease screenings, and psychological assessments, alongside cultural aspects to enrich the experience. Chao added that the event is expected to attract around 1,000 participants.
