The Public Security Police Force (PSP) arrested a local man for sexually harassing a female secondary school student on Saturday, PSP spokesman Lei Chan Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Lei identified the suspect, who is in his 30s, as a professional driver surnamed Cheong.

According to Lei, at around 10:00 p.m. on Friday, while the local victim was on a bus heading home from the Barrier Gate, the suspect, Cheong, suddenly moved closer, put his head on the victim’s shoulder, and at the same time touched her thigh with his hand.

The underage victim immediately shouted at him to stop touching her, Lei said, adding that she later told her father about the incident when she got home, and her father reported the matter to PSP at around midnight on Saturday.

After receiving the report, Lei said, PSP officers identified Cheong through the city’s CCTV system and the bus surveillance footage.

PSP officers intercepted Cheong later that day on Avenida do Parque Industrial (工業園大馬路) in the northern district, according to Lei.

Under questioning, Cheong claimed that he had been drinking that evening and said his memory of the incident was hazy, Lei said.

Cheong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a sexual harassment charge.

According to Article 164-A of the Macau Penal Code, sexual harassment is punishable by a prison term of up to one year.
