Aiming to celebrate the 77th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and respond to “World Walking Day”, the Sports Bureau will hold the “2026 Macao National Day & World Walking Day Fun Run” on National Day, October 1, immediately after the National Day flag-raising ceremony, Sports Bureau (ID) Sports Development Department Chief Chao Kuok Wai announced at a press conference yesterday.
The press conference about the sporting event took place at the bureau’s headquarters in Zape.
This year’s event will officially kick off at 8:15 a.m. on National Day. Starting and finishing in Praça Flor de Lótus (Golden Lotus Square - 金蓮花廣場), the approximately 3-km route will cover Avenida da Amizade, Avenida Dr. Sun Yat Sen, and Alameda Dr. Carlos d’Assumpção, according to an ID statement yesterday.
The statement noted that participants may choose to take part in either the fun run or the walk: fun run registration is open from now until September 23 at 12:00 p.m., and walk registration is available from now until September 30 at 12:00 p.m. Registration is open to both individuals and teams.
Chao noted in a speech that to encourage active participation among Macau residents and various sectors of civil society, the event will feature two special “National Day Cups”, awarded to the first fun run runner to reach the finish line and the group with the highest number of finishers across the entire event.
In the fun run, prizes will be awarded to the top 10 finishers in both the men’s and women’s divisions. For group awards, trophies will be presented to the group with the largest number of total finishers in each of the five categories: schools, sports associations, hometown and clan associations (鄉族), public and private organisations, and other social groups, Chao said, adding that all participants who complete the full course will receive an electronic commemorative certificate.
