The Macao University of Tourism (UTM) and the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) of Mozambique inaugurated their joint UTM-UEM Talent Development Programme on Thursday.
The inauguration ceremony was held at UTM’s new campus within the First Phase of the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town.
According to a statement issued that day, through the programme, UTM has admitted three UEM faculty members into its Master’s degree programmes and submitted nominations to Macao Foundation’s “Scholarship for International Postgraduate Students Pursuing Further Studies in Macao”, while one UEM Mozambican student has also been admitted to a Bachelor’s degree programme.
Among the guests at Thursday’s ceremony were UTM Acting Rector Connie Loi Kim Ieng and UEM Rector Manuel Guilherme Júnior, who also delivered a guest lecture.
During her speech, Loi said that the programme embodies UTM’s “shared belief that education is the most sustainable form of cooperation, and that investing in people is investing in the future.”
Loi also highlighted that UTM is boosting international promotion efforts to enrich the diversity of its campus and strengthen its standing as an international education hub, the statement said.
Located in Maputo, UEM is Mozambique’s largest public university and offers over 200 degree programmes, while more than 48,000 students are enrolled.
The statement noted that the partnership between the higher education institutions stems back to 1998, when they signed their first cooperation agreement. Both had also signed a new cooperation agreement in April 2024, jointly creating the programme.
