The Arabic music composed by Lebanese musician Marcel Khalife on a traditional instrument called the oud that will be presented to the local audience will be great music not just to the ears but also to the heart and mind.

The internationally renowned musician will be presenting his work at his “Marcel Khalife World Music Concert” tomorrow evening at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM).

Khalife, 67, is known for his avant-garde musical compositions for the oud, an instrument originating from Persia some 3,500 years ago. The oud is widely hailed as the “king of Arabic instruments”.

In a recent e-mail interview, Khalife said that his parents introduced him to the oud as a way to stop him from his non-stop banging on pots and pans to create sounds and that his mother was convinced that he has an innate musical talent.
