The Sports Bureau (ID) announced in a statement yesterday that local karatekas have clinched one more silver and one bronze medal at the Asian Games.
The Macau sports delegation has so far won one gold, four silver, and two bronze medals.
In yesterday’s Asian Games men’s team karate final, according to a Macau Sports Weekly story, the Macau team of Cheang Pei Lok, Kuok Kin Hang, and Fong Man Hou faced the Kuwaiti team and ultimately lost 0–5, taking home the silver medal.
According to a story by the Post, the three karatekas previously won a gold medal at the 15th National Games karate competition last year.
Meanwhile, in yesterday’s women’s -50kg kumite event, Fong Man Wai – who was defeated by a Malaysian athlete in the round of 16 – was given a second chance in the repechage* after her opponent advanced to the final. She then defeated a Bangladeshi athlete to enter the bronze medal match and ultimately overcame Uzbek athlete Alimardanova Gulshan 6–5 to win the bronze medal, according to Macau Sports Weekly.
According to the ID’s statement, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Wallis O Lam was also at the competition venue yesterday to witness the Macau athletes receiving their medals and to congratulate them on their achievements.
