Industry and Commerce Association of Macau Northern District (AICZNM) Director General Ma Kin Cheong announced during an opening ceremony at yesterday’s Macao Northern District Market that the two-segment event aims to boost the local community economy.
According to a statement released during the ceremony held in Praça dos Lótus, Ilha Verde, the market has built a strong brand reputation and become a key platform for driving economic development in the northern district and showcasing community character, as it enters its sixth consecutive year thanks to a rich programme of activities closely tied to residents’ daily lives.
The event continues to revitalise commercial resources in the northern district’s older areas, consolidate stable development in the local economy, and steadily build up exclusive brand value for the “Macao Northern District Market” intellectual property, thereby raising the district’s profile in cultural tourism, the statement said.
The market runs from today until Sunday, and again from next Thursday to next Sunday, operating daily from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The statement added that 45 specially curated stalls are featured on-site across three main sections: local cuisine, trendy retail, and fun games. Activities include lantern riddle guessing, a special “Little Cavalry” themed event, spending lucky draws, interactive stage games, and cultural performances.
According to Ma, the event takes advantage of the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays by integrating themes of family reunion and national pride into the streets of the northern district. It is hoped this will draw crowds, stimulate consumer spending, boost trade for local merchants, and revitalise business in the older neighbourhood.
Ma added that the chamber will continue to build the “Macao Northern District Market” brand, elevating the northern district’s standing in cultural tourism and attracting both residents and visitors to spend time and money there, thereby laying a solid foundation for regular community economic activities.
