A section of the ongoing skywalk project along Avenida do Nordeste (東北大馬路) in the peninsula’s Areia Preta district will come into use today, the government has announced.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed in June next year.
The 600-metre-long elevated walkway along Avenida do Nordeste will enable pedestrians to walk all the way between the government’s high-rise rental residential building for senior citizens on Plot P and the Mong Son social rental housing estate on Avenida de Venceslau de Morais (慕拉士大馬路).
There will be about a dozen access points to the skywalk.
The Avenida do Nordeste skywalk will directly link the podium area of the Mong Son social housing estate with the podium area of the Plot P seniors’ rental housing estate.
A statement by the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) on Saturday said that the construction progress of the skywalk project is currently good. The statement said that the access point outside the La Baie Du Noble (海名居) private residential estate and the access point outside the Lok Koi (樂居) government-built temporary housing estate will come into use today.
In addition, the enclosed footbridge linking the skywalk directly with the first floor of the Plot P seniors’ rental housing estate will also open today.
The section opening today will make it more convenient for pedestrians to walk between the La Baie Du Noble residential estate and the Grand Plaza restaurant on the first floor of the Plot P seniors’ rental housing estate.
The DSOP statement also said that all pile foundations for the skywalk have been completed, while 160 metres of steel box girders (on the side of Avenida de Venceslau de Morais) – out of the 600-metre-long skywalk – still remain to be hoisted and installed.
These works are now slated to be completed at the end of this year, the statement said, adding that the whole project can be completed in the second quarter of next year as scheduled.
The skywalk project is being carried out for 248 million patacas by a consortium comprising Sam Yau Property Development Company Limited and San Kei Ip Decoration Company Limited.
