The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and Sports Bureau (ID) announced in a press conference yesterday at the Macao Cultural Centre (CCM) in Nape that Macau’s cultural and sporting events will span international music performances, cultural exchanges between China and Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs), major golf and basketball tournaments, community activities and National Day celebrations throughout this month.

While at the same time the 8th “Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries” will return alongside the 29th Lusofonia Festival, featuring traditional performances, exhibitions, concerts and film screenings, running from this month to December, bringing together nearly 690 artists and performers for about 50 events across community spaces and theatres.

The term “Lusofonia” denotes the world’s Portuguese-speaking countries and communities.

The Lusofonia Festival will take place at Taipa Houses from October 23 to 25, focusing on Brazilian culture with food, street art and performances by groups from Brazil, Equatorial Guinea and Timor-Leste (East Timor), alongside more than 40 local Portuguese-speaking arts groups, according to an IC statement yesterday. Cultural booths representing Macau’s Portuguese-speaking communities will showcase music, handicrafts, cuisine and tourism information, the statement noted.

Traditional song and dance performances from the Chinese mainland, Equatorial Guinea and Timor-Leste will also take place at Seac Pai Van in Coloane, Lok Yeung Fa Yuen (綠楊빻園) in Fai Chi Kei district, and Nam Van Lakeside Plaza on October 24 and 25, the statement said.

In November, Mozambican singer Stewart Sukuma will perform with the Macao Chinese Orchestra (OCHM) at the CCM Grand Auditorium on November 14, with tickets going on sale this Saturday via ticketing.enjoymacao.mo.

The 38th Macao International Music Festival, themed “Silk Resonances”, will present 10 programmes, one music camp and 12 citywide activities inspired by the Maritime Silk Road and cultural exchanges between East and West.

This month’s major sporting events include the SJM Macao Open 2026 golf tournament from October 15 to 18, the FIBA (International Basketball Federation) 3x3 World Tour Macau 2026 on October 17 and 18 at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ruins of St. Paul’s, and the Greater Bay Area (GBA) 3x3 Basketball Tour – Macao Finals from October 19 to 21.

IC and ID President Deland Leong Wai Man said that the October programme would provide activities for different interests and age groups, encouraging residents and visitors to enjoy the city’s cultural diversity and sporting opportunities.

The two bureaux are slated to be merged next month, the government has announced recently.

Moreover, tickets for the 73rd Macau Grand Prix (MGP), slated for November 19 to 22, will go on sale at noon on October 9 through online platforms and physical outlets.
