A male warden at a children’s care home in the northern district has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a nine-year-old boy and illicitly filming four other underage boys showering, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chao Teng Hin said during a special press conference on Friday.

Chao identified the local suspect as a 34-year-old surnamed Ng, who had been employed at the facility since mid-2025.

The suspect faces charges of sexual assault of a person under institutional care and intrusion upon privacy. The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for further investigation. Ng faces up to eight years and two years respectively for his alleged offences.

According to Chao, the nine-year-old victim had moved into the care home in June. In late August, the boy told his mother that Ng had touched his private parts on four consecutive nights while he was sleeping.

The boy’s mother immediately informed the care home and the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS). On Wednesday, the boy, accompanied by his mother, IAS social workers and care home management, reported the case to the Judiciary Police.

Judiciary Police officers went to the children’s home on Thursday and arrested Ng. Upon examining his smartphone, police discovered 37 illicitly filmed video clips showing several boys having showers.

Chao said further investigation confirmed that the videos involved at least five boys, including the nine-year-old victim. Police did not rule out the possibility of additional victims and said the investigation remains ongoing.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued on Friday, the Social Welfare Bureau strongly condemned the alleged assault and expressed grave concern over the incident.

The bureau said it immediately dispatched officers to intervene upon learning of the case, adding that the suspect has since been dismissed by the care home.

The IAS stated that it is fully cooperating with the police investigation and has launched a thorough inspection of the operational management of the facility to ensure the safety of all its charges. Appropriate psychological counselling and support are being provided to the affected children and their families.

The bureau has ordered the operating institution to submit a detailed report, review its operational procedures and guidelines, and pledged to strengthen routine inspections and oversight of children’s care homes across Macau.

The Judiciary Police strongly condemned Ng’s alleged abuse of authority and breach of professional ethics, urging victims of illegal acts – regardless of age or gender – not to remain silent out of fear, but to seek immediate help from trusted individuals or the police.
