The official opening ceremony for the latest exhibition at POLY MGM MUSEUM, “Luminous Brilliance: The Artistry of Zibo Liuli”, was held yesterday at MGM MACAU, with the three-chapter showcase continuing its run until March 31.
Among the attending guests were Edmund Ho Hau Wah, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Yang Weiqun, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; and Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) President Deland Leong Wai Man.
The museum, which opened back in November 2024, started showcasing its latest exhibits earlier this month, showcasing nearly 3,000 years of Zibo liuli’s* history and development through around 180 exhibits, all the while incorporating multimedia technology to tell its story.
The latest exhibition is held in conjunction with the National Museum of China and the Zibo Ceramics and Glass Museum.
Delivering a speech at yesterday’s ceremony, MGM China Holdings Limited Chairperson and Executive Director Pansy Ho Chiu King said: “The POLY MGM MUSEUM provides a platform where diverse cultures along the Silk Road can meet, engage and learn from one another in Macau, a city where East and West converge. MGM will continue to serve as both a ‘connector’ and a ‘partner’ in cultural exchange. We look forward to working with more collaborators to write a new chapter in the high-quality development of cultural tourism and contribute to the preservation and promotion of Chinese culture”.
China Poly Group Corporation Limited Chairman Zu Bin noted in his speech that the exhibition serves as “a vivid example of the museum’s efforts to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of intangible cultural heritage. Looking ahead, the museum will continue to present world-class exhibitions that reflect cultural confidence, bringing the finest traditions of Chinese culture into modern life, into public view and onto the global stage.”
Moreover, during her speech, National Museum of China Deputy Director Chen Li said that through its chapters, the exhibition traces “the development of Chinese liuli art and highlight its distinctive craftsmanship, fully demonstrating the enduring heritage and contemporary transformation of traditional Chinese glassmaking”, hoping that visitors will experience its charm.
The event also saw the presentation of the UNESCO-listed Ruins of St. Paul’s-inspired “Lotus Blossoms in Prosperity, Good Fortune Upon Macau” to the museum.
