Confirmed to the Post by phone last night, a Public Security Police Force (PSP) spokesman said that a cyclist died on Tuesday after a collision with a motorcyclist in Ilha Verde district on Monday.
According to the spokesman, at 6:43 a.m. on Monday, the Public Security Police Force received a report of a traffic accident on Estrada Marginal da Ilha Verde (青洲河邊馬路), heading towards Rua da Ilha Verde (青洲上街), with the caller reporting that two people were injured.
Upon arriving at the scene, the spokesman said, officers found that the incident involved a collision between a scooter and a bicycle, adding that both drivers are male Macau residents.
The motorcyclist, according to the spokesman, is a 39-year-old male who suffered multiple abrasions. He was conscious, in stable condition, and was rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre (CHCSJ). The cyclist, a 69-year-old local male, was suspected of having a fractured right ankle and experienced deteriorating consciousness. He was rushed to CHCSJ for emergency treatment; however, he was pronounced dead at 7:16 p.m. on Tuesday.
Although initial findings revealed that the scooter collided with the bicycle from behind, the spokesman noted that further investigation was still required to determine the exact circumstances of the traffic accident.
