A Public Security Police Force (PSP) spokesman confirmed to the Post last night that a woman in a wheelchair was admitted to the public hospital’s emergency ward after being hit by a bus yesterday morning.
According to the spokesman, the Public Security Police Force received a report of a traffic accident on Rua do Visconde Paço de Arcos (巴素打爾古街) at 10:53 a.m. yesterday. Upon arrival, officers found that a local woman in her nineties, who was in a wheelchair, had been hit by a Transmac bus at a pedestrian crossing with traffic lights, the spokesman said, adding that the woman was trapped under the bus and injured.
She was rescued by firefighters and immediately rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre (CHSCJ).
A Fire Services Bureau (CB) spokesman also confirmed to the Post last night that the woman, aged 97, suffered contusions to her neck, back, and waist, a laceration to the back of her left hand, abrasions to her right calf, and a suspected fracture.
The PSP spokesman said the bus driver, a local man in his thirties, passed a breathalyser test, adding that the exact cause of the accident was still under investigation.
The spokesman also said that as of around 5:00 p.m. yesterday, the victim was found to have sustained multiple fractures and needed to be hospitalised for surgery.
A Transmac spokeswoman said that the bus was travelling along Rua do Visconde Paço de Arcos (towards Patane district) when, near the Ponte 16 bus stop, a review of video footage showed that after the pedestrian traffic light turned red, the nonagenarian moved from the left front blind spot of the bus into the road. The bus driver, moving off slowly, failed to notice her in time, resulting in the front of the bus colliding with the wheelchair user, the spokesperson said, adding that no passengers were injured in the incident.

This photo downloaded from social media platform Facebook yesterday shows a female victim lying under the bus and her wheelchair lying in front of it after yesterday morning’s crash near Hotel Ponte 16. The Post cannot vouch for its authenticity.
