Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai travelled to Shanghai yesterday afternoon, where he will attend the opening ceremony of the 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) this morning as well as other relevant events, according to a statement by the Macao Government Information Bureau (GCS) yesterday.
Since its inception in 2018, the expo has been held every year between November 5 and 10 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai.
Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, will deliver a keynote speech during this morning’s opening ceremony of the six-day expo.
According to yesterday’s GCS statement, Sam is accompanied on his visit to Shanghai by Secretary for Economy and Finance Dora Ng Wai Han. They are scheduled to return to Macau this afternoon.
During Sam’s absence from Macau, Secretary for Administration and Justice Wong Sio Chak is assuming the duties of acting chief executive.
The GCS statement also noted that 162 countries, regions, and international organisations are participating in this year’s CIIE.
The statement noted that Macau entrepreneurs will take part in the “Pavilion of Food and Beverage from Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries” and the “Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries’ Professional Service Pavilion,” showcasing “Made in Macao” items, Macau-branded products, and food and beverage products from Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs), as well as various professional services.
