Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak has decided to place the Judiciary Police (PJ) officer who abused his dog in public view in January on suspension, according to the website of the Office of the Secretary for Security (GSS).

The officer, surnamed Chan, was filmed by someone kicking, beating and throwing the dog around on the verandah of a residential building in Taipa in January 17. The video quickly went viral on various social media such as Facebook. Government-owned broadcaster TDM also aired the video.

A Public Security Police (PSP) statement in January said that a veterinarian of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) who examined Pazu, Chan’s dog, at the scene determined that the canine had “apparently” not been injured, adding that therefore the incident was not considered a criminal case, according to the Animal Protection Law.
