Lift technician dies in work accident

A non-resident male worker died yesterday after he was hit by suspension ropes that fell from the 22nd floor when he was working at the bottom of a lift shaft in a commercial building in Nape, the Secretariat for Economy and Finance (GSEF) said in a statement yesterday.
Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac is saddened by the repeated occurrence of fatal accidents at work, the GSEF statement said.

According to a statement from the Judiciary Police (PJ) yesterday, the accident happened at about 2 p.m. yesterday. The victim and three workmates – employees of an engineering firm – were replacing lift suspension ropes at that time. The victim was working at the bottom of the lift shaft.
