Over 60 local businesses are joining Orbis’ “Darkness To Go” fund-raising campaign this year to support the global non-profit-making organisation’s sight-saving mission around the world.

J+Plus and Signum are among the businesses which will donate part of their proceeds to Orbis from purchases made during the campaign period now until August 20.

J+Plus is joining the campaign for the first time after learning how meaningful it is, saying that as a sports retailer, they care very much about people’s health in general and eye health in particular as many of their friends and family have eye problems.

A J+Plus representative said that as the company offers a custom print service on clothing and sports equipment, they would be able to speak to the customers directly and let them know about Orbis’ mission, adding that for every purchase or order of at least 500 patacas from the shop, the company will donate 20 patacas to Orbis during the campaign period.

Similarly, home decoration and furniture retailer Signum will also be donating part of its proceeds to Orbis during the campaign period.

Signum is taking part in “Darkness To Go” for the second year because they were very impressed and had a good experience with the campaign last year.

A representative from Signum said that they chose to support Orbis because they found that the way Orbis gets in touch with the underprivileged or minority groups around the world to save sight especially meaningful as it promotes the development of a harmonious society.

For the campaign, Signum will donate part of its proceeds from purchases at its Barra and Guia stores.

Signum said that by being part of this campaign, they hope to help spread a positive energy, because when people shop, they are also achieving happiness by helping others.
