Most panellists and audience members at yesterday’s Macau Forum said yesterday’s hike in the city’s taxi fares was “reasonable”, but called for significant improvement in the quality of local taxi services.
The weekly open-air debate is hosted by government-owned broadcaster TDM in Areia Preta Park every Sunday. Yesterday’s forum addressed the taxi fare increase and related issues.
According to the Transport Bureau (DSAT), there are 1,600 licensed taxis in Macau.
The city’s taxi fares were raised yesterday, with the flagfall increased by 11.8 percent, from 17 to 19 patacas, and the distance for subsequent incremental charges shortened from 260 to 240 metres.
