This year’s month-long Macau International Music Festival (MIMF), which starts on September 29, will see international rising stars presenting the work of opera, orchestra and philharmonic classical music masters.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), which organises the annual event, held a press conference at the Macau Cultural Centre In Nape yesterday where it was announced that to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Italian composer Umberto Giordano, his four-act opera “Andrea Chénier” presented by Teatro Regio di Torino, will be the festival’s opening act.

According to IC Vice President Kent Ieong Chi Kin, the festival’s budget this year is 30 million patacas, less than last year’s 38 million patacas.
