The president of the Legislative Assembly’s Committee on House Rules, Vong Hin Fai, said yesterday his committee has decided to withdraw a controversial draft resolution that would have barred lawmakers from displaying placards during plenary sessions – if it had been passed by the legislature.

The draft resolution’s proposed amendment to Article 47 of the Legislative Assembly Procedure Rules was abruptly retracted by the committee.

Vong, a government-appointed lawmaker, made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a plenum of the legislature yesterday.
