The Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a message yesterday that phone scam fraudsters pretending to be local customs and immigration officers as well as officials from the mainland have started to use another way in their phone scams – calling landlines, in addition to what they usually do – ringing mobile phones.

The Judiciary Police reminded residents in the message that no authorities of any countries and regions will ask residents on the phone to transfer or deposit money to any particular accounts, adding otherwise it must be a phone scam. The message urged residents to report to the police if they have received such phone calls.

The police reportedly received more than 100 reports of phone scams by fraudsters pretending to be local customs and immigrations officers over the last week.
