Lawmakers Jose Pereira Coutinho and Leong Veng Chai held a press conference yesterday, expressing their opposition to the controversial draft resolution that would have barred lawmakers from displaying placards during plenary sessions – if it had been passed by the legislature.

Last week, the amendment was abruptly retracted by the Legislative Assembly’s Committee on House Rules.

Vong Hin Fai, president of the committee, said last month that in order to maintain the legislature’s solemnity and authority, the committee was proposing to amend the Procedure Rules to bar legislators from displaying placards during plenary sessions.
