Although young people may be viewed as being politically apathetic, they actually have a better understanding of the legislative elections nowadays than in the past, partly due to the rise of the new media, Ken Chan Chi Fong, vice-president of the Macau Development Strategy Research Centre, said yesterday.
The direct and indirect legislative elections will take place on September 17.
Chan, an associate professor at the Centre of Continuing Education and Special Projects of the Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM), made the remarks on the sidelines of the annual Macau Youth Summit, co-organised by 31 local youth associations, at the Macau Science Centre. One of the topics of the one-day summit was Macau’s election culture.
