A South Korean man was caught on Monday for stealing money and valuables from various shops to support himself after gambling away all his money, according to a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson yesterday.

The spokesperson said the suspect, surnamed Jung, is a 48-year-old overstayer.

According to the spokesperson, the suspect came to Macau as a tourist in 2015. Since losing all his money in local casinos, he has never left the city.

The spokesperson said an antique shop owner reported to the police on August 1 that HK$95,000 in his shoulder bag had vanished. After scrutinising the CCTV footage provided by the owner, the police identified Jung and later confirmed where he stayed, the spokesperson said, adding the police also discovered that he was involved in two other thefts in 2016.
