Gaming operator SJM is continuing its typhoon relief efforts by providing free medical treatment for people in need in the hard-hit Praia do Manduco area for a month from tomorrow, while telecom operator CTM launched an aid scheme to help residents repair or replace telecom equipment damaged by the killer typhoon.

SJM said in a statement yesterday that in addition to a series of welfare and support services for its staff and the general public in the wake of Typhoon Hato that struck Macau on Wednesday, the company, in conjunction with Dr. Pun Chai Hou of the Chun Ton Medical Centre, is now also providing free medical treatment from tomorrow for a month, from Monday to Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the centre in 40 Travessa dos Vendilhoes in the Praia do Manduco (Ha Van Kai).

In addition, SJM is extending the opening of its staff-only supermarket “SJM Excellence Staff Centre” to the public until September 14 “to help ease residents’ burden of shopping for necessities during this challenging typhoon period” as goods there are sold at staff discount prices. The supermarket is located in Avenida da Amizade’s Hung On Centre.

According to the SJM statement, since Thursday, the SJM Volunteer Team has been out helping households and families affected by Typhoon Hato. It also has set up an assistance hotline at 2872 7138 for the public and staff.

Meanwhile, CTM said in a statement yesterday that it has launched a “Telecom Facilities Aid Scheme” for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and people in need where the company assigns technical teams to carry out on-site repairs to damaged telecom services and replace, if necessary, the equipment for free.

According to the CTM statement, the scheme will cost the company about 20 million patacas.

Since Thursday, according to the statement, CTM has temporarily increased the 4G mobile data usage, provided free usage of CTM WiFi hotspots, as well as provided free “health checks” for handsets and free use of charging stations, and residents can also borrow mobile chargers for free from all CTM shops.
