The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a woman on Sunday for attacking her husband with a cleaver and slashing his genitals after a heated argument with the victim over a suspected affair, PJ spokesman Tam Weng Keong said during a special press conference yesterday.

The couple are Vietnamese nationals living in Macau.

Tam identified the suspect as a 46-year-old domestic helper surnamed Tran and the victim as a 38-year-old cleaner. The couple, who have a son in Vietnam, came to Macau to work in 2015, Tam said, who did not reveal the victim’s surname.

Since moving to Macau, the couple have been living in a flat used as a dormitory for non-resident workers in Iao Hon district, Tam said.

Tam said that Tran recently  started to suspect that her husband was having an affair, adding that the couple had been quarrelling over
the matter for a while.

According to Tam, Tran also told the victim that she would “punish” him if she found out that he was having an affair.

On Saturday, the couple went to a friend’s home for dinner and left at 10:30 p.m. On their way home, the couple started arguing again over the victim’s suspected affair, during which the victim slapped his wife’s face, Tam said.

At 1 a.m. on Sunday, seeing her husband drunk and asleep, Tran tied his hands and legs with four shoelaces, Tam said, after which she went to the kitchen and took a cleaver and slashed the victim’s penis, which caused him to wake up screaming.

According to Tam, the victim’s screams drew the attention of their flatmates. Tran threw the cleaver in the rubbish bin in the kitchen and left the flat. The flatmates reported the case to the police. The victim was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Tam did not mention which hospital the victim was taken to.

According to Tam, at 10 a.m. on Sunday PJ officers found Tran walking in the street near the flat where she works in Taipa. The officers took Tran to the PJ headquarters for questioning, where she admitted that she had slashed her husband’s penis once.

Tam said that the victim was still receiving hospital treatment at the time of yesterday’s press conference. The victim suffered a threecentimetre- long cut to his penis, Tam said, adding that the police were still investigating whether the victim did have an affair.

Tam said Tran would be transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) for possible arraignment on a charge of aggravated assault.
