The police arrested a local man when he returned to Macau on Monday, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said in a special press conference yesterday at the PJ headquarters in Zape.

The suspect is a 26-year-old resident surnamed Lai.

The owner of an eatery in the city centre reported to the police in May that a cash register at his restaurant was broken open and all the cash was gone. After scrutinising CCTV footage, the police confirmed that a man had broken into the restaurant.

The burglar stole 40,500 patacas. Based on the CCTV footage, the victim identified the man as a former employee of his.
