A local casino junket representative was caught last night for smuggling drugs that he bought in the mainland to sell in Macau, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman said last night after 1.8 million patacas worth of drugs had been found stashed in the suspect’s luxury flat in Areia Preta.

The spokesman told reporters outside La Residencia in Areia Preta that the suspect is a 38-year-old Macau resident surnamed Lei who works as a VIP room promoter.

The spokesman said that they received a report two weeks ago about a man smuggling drugs from the mainland to Macau to sell to patrons in night clubs, and after investigating, police identified the suspect as Lei and put him under surveillance.
