A green light for casinos to operate in Japan will have a greater impact on Macau’s gaming industry than other gaming hubs in the region, Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM) Professor Zeng Zhonglu said yesterday.

Zeng made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the campus of the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Taipa where he held a seminar on the history and development of Macau’s gaming industry and its development trend in the future. Some 30 students attended the seminar.

Japan legalised casino operations late last year – both the lower house and upper house of its bicameral parliament passed the Integrated Resorts Promotion bill to lift the country’s longstanding ban on casino operations in the world’s third-largest economy.
