The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested 41 men and women from the mainland in Taipa on Friday for alleged membership of a loan-sharking gang which for a year had offered casino patrons instant gambling loans.
The 36 male and six female suspects are aged between 23 and 60. The suspects told the police that their gang had been operating for a year, PJ spokesman Yeung Sau Chan said during a special press conference on Friday.
According to Yeung, PJ officers raided four flats in Kings Ville in Avenida Olimpica in Taipa, where the 41 suspects were apprehended and PJ officers found “considerable” quantities of usury receipts, photocopies of borrowers’ IDs and advertising material related to the gang’s business activities.
