The Judiciary Police (PJ) announced in a special press conference yesterday the arrests of two mainlanders involved in two thefts on Wednesday.

According to a PJ spokesperson, the two suspects are a 38-year-old driver surnamed Huang and a 31-year-old businessman surnamed Zhang.

The spokesperson said that on August 20 the police received a report from a man from the mainland that his money had been stolen while he was shopping in a hotel mall in Cotai earlier that day. After investigating the police found out that two men approached the victim when he was on an escalator. One of the men shielded the other from public view while the other stole a total of HK$236,000 in cash from the victim’s backpack. The duo left swiftly afterwards.
