Over 11,000 traffic accidents in 9 months

Public Security Police (PSP) Traffic Department Commissioner Leong Wa Chi said yesterday that 11,087 traffic accidents were recorded in the first nine months of this year, or an average of 40 accidents a day, resulting in 3,541 injuries and six deaths.

Leong made the remarks during a press conference about the annual Road Safety Carnival, at the Transport Bureau (DSAT) in Estrada de D. Maria II.

According to Leong, the number of accidents recorded in the first nine months of the year was about the same as those recorded from January to September last year. Leong said that between January and September the police recorded 4,768 cases of people failing to wear a seat belt, up three percent.
