The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a man from the mainland yesterday for operating three fake base stations in a flat near the Barrier Gate border checkpoint, PJ spokesman Tam Weng Keong said during a special press conference yesterday.

Tam identified the suspect as a 28-year-old surnamed Luo, who told the police that he was a farmer.

A fake base station is telecom equipment which sends out a signal, disconnecting mobile phone users in an area from their legitimate base stations and who then receive messages from the bogus one instead.
