According to a study titled ‘Addictive behaviours and psychological correlates among Chinese adolescents in Macau’, 49.8 percent of the surveyed teens reported engagement in addictive behaviour, Chan Mei Lo, supervisor of the Integrated Centre on Addiction Prevention and Treatment (ICAPT) of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals in Hong Kong said yesterday.
Macau’s Bosco Youth Service Network (BYS) and the group’s centre jointly conducted the study and hosted a press conference about its findings at the Comprehensive Assessment Centre for Rehabilitation Services in Istmo de Ferreira do Amaral yesterday.
The study surveyed 1,603 Form 1 to 3 pupils in 12 local schools through questionnaires handed out between March and May about addictive behaviours including drinking alcohol, gambling, using drugs and smoking.
