Two male suspects from the mainland robbed a victim of HK$300,000 last Monday in a currency exchange case, and one of the suspects was arrested on Saturday, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Cho Man said yesterday during a special conference at the PJ headquarters in Zape.
Chan said that the arrested suspect is a 35-year-old mainlander surnamed Jiang, who claims to be unemployed.
According to Chan, the victim, whose surname was not given, worked as a money changer for gamblers. On November 13 in the evening, the victim received a phone call asking if he could exchange Hong Kong dollars. He was asked to meet at a resort hotel in Cotai. When the victim arrived, he was led to a guestroom by the other male suspect. After he entered the room, Jiang suddenly came out of the bathroom and grabbed the victim round the neck. The victim was pushed on to the bed at knifepoint and tied up by the duo. They grabbed HK$300,000 from the victim’s bag and fled. The victim later freed himself and called the police.
