In a joint bust by the Macau Customs Service and the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM), a total of 254 kilogrammes of meat and 20 kilogrammes of vegetables were seized, according to a joint statement yesterday.
The statement said that the two government bodies took action last Friday and this week on Tuesday and Wednesday. During the operation seven eateries, two vegetable stalls and a food processing plant were found to have imported uninspected food which they were selling in the city.
According to the statement, the suspects face if found guilty, according to the Food Safety Law, up to five years behind bars and hefty fines.
In the statement, the Customs Service and Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau urged the public to report to the Customs Service or the IACM Food Safety Centre any suspicious food sources.
