The 2nd International Film Festival and Awards – Macau (IFFAM) kicked off on Friday with a star-studded red carpet event which included Hollywood star Jeremy Renner, but was marred by “equipment failure” for the screening of “Rashomon” on Saturday.

The festival’s opening ceremony took place at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM) with “Paddington 2” as the opening film, which had its world premiere in London on November 5.

This year’s festival is themed “A New Avenue to the World of Films”. Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, who is also the president of IFFAM Organising Committee said at the opening ceremony that the festival’s competition section spotlights first- and second-time feature film directors to inspire young industry professionals to soar higher.
